Have you visited London's top landmarks yet?

8th January 2014

Everyone knows that London is home to a huge number of the UK's most famous landmarks and attractions, although the reality seems to be that many people simply take this for granted, despite the fact that they have never visited them for themselves.

At least, that's what can be inferred from a recent survey of more than 2,000 British adults, which revealed that a surprising number have not seen the majority of London's most iconic sites with their own eyes.

Buckingham Palace, for example, has only been visited by 38 per cent of Brits, according to the study by Sykes Cottages - a figure which seems somewhat surprising given the current popularity of the Royal Family.

What with the royal wedding, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the birth of Prince George - all of which have occurred in the last few years - the palace has become a real focus of global attention, attracting visitors from across the world.

It therefore seems even more ridiculous to think that so many of those who actually live in the UK, and can claim to have the royal residence on their doorstep, have not taken the time to see the Changing of the Guards at the famous building.

It isn't just Buckingham Palace that has been neglected by Brits, either, as a meagre 33 per cent of respondents said they had visited the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square.

Recognised as one of the premier art exhibition spaces in the world, the National Gallery is home to a huge number of exquisite paintings and is accompanied by the neighbouring National Portrait Gallery, while being overlooked by Nelson's Column.

If you've never visited these or any other of London's top landmarks, then why not make it your new year's resolution to take advantage of the many fantastic attractions on offer in the capital?
