London readies for Valentine's Day

26th January 2012

As Valentine's Day approaches and couples rush to the capital for romantic London getaways, official tourism group Visit London has touted the best places to get in the spirit of the holiday.

Couples staying in luxury London hotels can take in a variety of sights and sounds, from romantic walks through to restaurants and unique shopping experiences.

"London is for lovers on Valentine's Day. The city has the ideal mix of cool, quirky, sweet and spectacular," explained the group.

"Impress your date with panoramic views, catch a West End show, take a romantic stroll, snuggle up in a cosy pub or soak up some history and culture. Whatever your preference, you're bound to find something romantic to do in London in February!"

Valentine's Day is traditionally best celebrated over a fine meal, with visitors to the capital not to be disappointed with wide array of spectacular feasts on offer.

The tourism group suggest that people take in a meal while looking out over great views from restaurants such as the Oxo Tower Bar and Brasserie, which is located eight storeys up along the south bank of the Thames.

Additionally, couples can grab a bite to eat and watch London pass them by on the river with the Bataeux London Cruise.

People can help build up their appetites by indulging in a number of romantic walks in London, with the city rich in natural beauty, even during a chilly February day.

"Wrap up warm and walk arm-in-arm along the Thames. Take some air in one of London's Royal Parks or enjoy the magnificent winter display at Kew Gardens," remarked Visit London.

Kew Gardens offers the opportunity to enjoy an exotic dinner amongst its orchid displays, with champagne and canapes preceding a four-course dinner at only £99 a head.

Those hoping to stick a little closer to their central London hotels can also explore world-renowned romantic places such as Hyde Park's rose gardens and lake or the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Garden.
