There's more than just Premiership football to enjoy in London

11th February 2014

With the top two positions in the Premier League currently occupied by London sides, it's clear that footy fans have lots to cheer about in the capital.

However, one thing that many people often tend to overlook is the sheer depth of footballing heritage that London has to offer, with the city represented by a huge number of teams throughout all divisions of the football league.

So, while watching a match at places like the Emirates Stadium, Stamford Bridge or White Hart Lane may be a great way to experience the thrill of the world's most famous league, there's also plenty of excitement and drama on offer elsewhere in the capital.

The Championship, for example, is often hailed as the most exciting and dramatic division in European football, largely due to the fact that it is so unpredictable - even more so than the Premiership.

Among the London-based sides currently competing to win promotion from the Championship are Queens Park Rangers, who play at one of the country's most famous and atmospheric grounds, Loftus Road.

Managed by former Tottenham, Portsmouth and West Ham boss Harry Redknapp, the Hoops were relegated from the Premiership last season and have been providing excellent entertainment since their multi-million pound takeover by Formula One head Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone in 2007.

Dropping further down the leagues, Leyton Orient have been surprising everyone this season with their sustained promotion charge in League One, and are currently on course for a playoff spot at least come the end of the season.

Based in east London, the O's are being chased by another of the capital's teams, Brentford - who play across town in the west of the city.

So, if you're looking for something a little more rough and ready than the Premiership then why not show your support for one of London's 'proper' football teams?
