What to do in London on Mother's Day

25th March 2014

With Mother's Day coming up this weekend (March 30th), now is the time to start thinking about how you're going to show your mum just how much you care, and if you're planning on celebrating in the capital, you'll find no shortage of options for doing just that.

To begin the day, why not treat her to an indulgent breakfast at one of the city's many fantastic cafes, creperies or cake shops? With chains like the Breakfast Club serving up delicious items like waffles, pancakes and smoothies - while independent shops like La Petite Bretagne in Hammersmith and the aptly named Look Mum No Hands in Old Street also make excellent choices - you certainly won't struggle to find a place to fill up before heading out for the day.

With breakfast taken care of, there is no end to the number of ways that you can pamper your mum in London this Sunday. If shopping is her thing, for example, then a trip to some of the stylish boutiques in Bond Street is a great way to while away the afternoon, while the famous Spitalfield Market is also an excellent place for shopaholics on a weekend.

Alternatively, you could take in some of the city's top cultural events, with loads of fantastic art galleries and museums to be found across the capital. The Southbank Centre, for instance, is currently hosting a retrospective exhibition of the works of Martin Creed, including an installation entitled Work No 1092, which is an enormous plinth decorated with the word MOTHERS in neon letters. A tribute to the importance of mothers across the world, it's the perfect piece of art to enjoy on this of all days.

Once night falls, why not head to the West End to catch a performance of the hit musical Mama Mia at the Novello Theatre? Located close to Covent Garden and Embankment tube stations, the theatre is just a few minutes on the London Underground from the Montcalm Hotel.
