A guide to London's trendiest areas
If you're the kind of person that likes to be in with the in crowd and is always on trend then you'll need to think carefully about where you tread next time you're in the capital. After all, being caught in an unfashionable part of town could destroy a person's street cred.
As is commonly known, London is one of the hippest cities on the planet and is at the forefront of all the latest developments in fashion, music and all forms of popular culture. Exactly which parts of the city the latest trends emanate from tends to shift over time, with new areas constantly emerging as the place to be.
Currently, there's nowhere cooler than east London, with regions like Dalston, Hoxton, Shoreditch and Hackney Wick being home to a huge number of artists, musicians and general hipsters, so a trip here is a good idea if you're looking to experience the cutting edge of London culture.
Pop-up shops selling all sorts of vintage clothing and underground music can be found throughout this part of the capital, while bars, pubs, cafes and clubs tend to be packed from wall to wall with people sporting the very latest fashion trends.
For a slightly different scene, head south of the river to Clapham, which is a popular area among recent university graduates as well as fun-loving immigrants from southern hemisphere countries like Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It's often referred to as being 'Down Under', partly because of its southerly location and partly because of the raucous atmosphere created by its Antipodean residents.
It's a great place to come if you're looking for a young crowd, and is one of the city's up-and-coming nightlife spots.
Of course, it would be wrong to talk about London's cultural powerhouses without mentioning Camden, with this area often seen as the spiritual home of the city's music scene. Gigs take place in bars and pubs here every night of the week, so if it's music you're into then be sure to stop off here at some point on your next visit to London.
