Cultural Olympiad events dominate London
London is embracing the special Cultural Olympiad being held across the UK in the run-up to the Olympic Games and is aiming to show the best of the country's arts.
One of the key events involves the London Transport Museum in Westminster and is a celebration of journeys and history.
Running until October 28th, the Mind the Map: Inspiring Art, Design and Cartography exhibition will make use of the museum's wide catalogue of maps and diagrams including many related to the London Underground from the past 150 years.
A press release from the London Transport Museum explained that the event will also incorporate a number of international maps.
"People all over the world, from Spain to Japan, as well as here in the UK, are using the Tube map in innovative and fascinating ways. All of these projects have changed the way we at the Museum have viewed the maps in our collection - it's been an amazing journey for us all," explained the central London museum.
There will also be a number of newly commissioned works by artists such as Simon Patterson, Stephen Walter and Susan Stockwell included in the exhibition.
Open seven days a week, the museum is located in Covent Garden Piazza and is an ideal attraction for those staying at central London hotels.
Admission to the London Transport Museum costs £13.50 for adults and £10 for concessions. A key advantage of the tickets is that they allow unlimited entry into the attraction for 12 months from the first purchase so great for those people who make regular trips to London.
