International Wimbledon Music Festival entertaining London

14th November 2012

The popular International Wimbledon Music Festival is continuing this week.

On until November 25th, the event brings together many of the world's top performers for a special festival celebrating the variety of international music.

Running for the fourth time, the two-week event is perfect for visitors staying in central London accommodation and is set to include some strong debut performances.

Russian pianist Mikhail Rudy will be debuting his interpretation of Petrushka, while Spanish guitarist Xuefei Yang will perform for the first time in SW19 and her set will include works by Granados, Albeniz and Tarrega.

"Music is a passion for me, and one I am passionate about sharing. I am delighted to be able to create, in the community in which I have lived for more than forty years, a festival sharing the experience of hearing and meeting world class artists in the company of friendly festival audiences," explained festival director Anthony Wilkinson.

Other highlights are set to include a live performance by the Little Angel Theatre of Stravinsky. Using puppetry and projections, the group provide an interesting experience for the audience with their amazing skills.

This year will also see the International Wimbledon Music Festival focusing on its international links with three other festivals - the Martinu Festival in Basel, Pro Musica Festival in El Paso, Texas, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the Sitka Summer Music Festival in Alaska.

The four festivals have joined together to commission a new piece of music by British composer Benjamin Wallfisch and it will be featured in the festival's gala event on November 24th. The music has been inspired by the paintings and sculptures of artist Arman and has been written for piano, violin, cello, double-bass, horn and percussion.
