London hosts new shows

3rd January 2012

Those on romantic London getaways over the coming months can take advantage of a number of new plays taking to stages in the capital this year.

Golden age musical favourite Singin' In The Rain is set to entertain audiences from February 4th to September 29th at the Palace Theatre, following the Jonathan Church production's sell-out run in Chichester.

Hoping to recreate the glamour of the classic film, Singin' In The Rain is set at the end of the silent movie heyday with star-actor Dan Lockwood struggling to make the transition.

"Shining with vitality, wit and romance, this is a musical to lift your heart and set you singin' and dancin' - in any weather," commented official tourism group Visit London.

The Madness of George III also returns to the stage this year, from January 18th to March 31st at the Apollo Theatre.

Rarely performed because of its large cast, The Madness of George III features Olivier-Award winning actor David Haig.

Also luring theatre-lovers to central London hotels, Hay Fever brings its tale of outrageous house parties to the Noel Coward Theatre.

The "comedy of bad manners" marks the return of Howard Davis, associate director of the National Theatre and actress Lindsay Duncan since their successful collaboration on another Noel Coward Play, Private Lives.

Those looking for madcap comedy from the legendary playwright can catch the show from February 10th to June 2nd.

Following a sell-out run at the Royal Albert Hall, the English National Ballet is taking its skills to the London Coliseum for Strictly Gershwin, a tribute to the famed composer.

The limited run, from January 4th to 15th, features a 50-piece orchestra work its way through classic Gershwin compositions.

Sadler's Wells will be bringing back the Pet Shop Boys and Javier De Frutos production of The Most Incredible Thing from March 15th to April 7th.

The group's first full-length dance production was a sell-out success during its 2011 run and won the Evening Standard Theatre Award.
