London's top comedy clubs
London is known for its fantastic arts scene, with all the biggest names in showbusiness regularly performing in the capital, while the city also continually produces new and emerging talent.
It should therefore come as no surprise to learn that the British capital is bursting with world-class comedy clubs, where the very best acts perform on an almost nightly basis, and aspiring hopefuls make their name or get booed off stage.
If you're in the mood for a chuckle next time you visit London then why not head to one of these highly respected establishments for a comedy gig? You'll have a choice of either seeing a household name perform their finest material or an up-and-coming performer try to break into the big time by testing out their credentials.
Your best bet for a good laugh is the Comedy Store on Oxendon Street in the West End. Located close to both Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square tube stations, this is the most prestigious comedy club in the country and everyone who's anyone has performed here at some point in their career.
Established acts play at the venue just about every night of the week, although if you want to discover something new then the last Monday of the month is the time to come, as this is when new acts test out their material at the legendary King Gong event.
Other excellent comedy clubs include the likes of Up the Creek in Greenwich, which hosts regular open mic nights as well as well-established performers. Jo Brand, Harry Hill and Jimmy Carr are just a few of the famous names to have entertained the crowds here, and you can be sure of seeing equally terrific acts just about every night of the year.
Amused Moose, meanwhile, is one of the top comedy events in London, and is held every Saturday night at Moonlighting in Soho.
