Phantom of the Opera extends booking period to October 2014

5th November 2013

One of London's most popular musicals has extended its booking period until October 25th next year.

The Phantom of the Opera has been attracting sell-out crowds since it opened in the capital in 1986, and has gone on to play for more than 100 million spectators in 25 countries around the world.

With an original score by West End supremo Andrew Lloyd Webber, the show tells the story of a mysterious composer who lives beneath an opera house and never shows his face because of the shame he feels about his appearance.

The so-called Phantom then falls in love with the resident soprano Carlotta, and a tragic love story then ensues.

Based on the 1910 novel by French author Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera is arguably the most iconic musical ever created, and has been as successful on Broadway as it has in London's Theatreland.

Currently playing at Her Majesty's Theatre, the play has recently undergone something of a makeover with a number of new cast members joining the production this year.

Among these is Geronimo Rauch, who has just finished a stint as Jean Valjean in the West End production of Les Miserables and has now taken over the role of the Phantom.

Carlotta, meanwhile, is now being played by Claire Moore, who made her name when she originated the role of Ellen in Miss Saigon.

Furthermore, Sean Palmer has this year taken over the role of Raoul after finishing a run as Bobby in the West End production of Crazy for You.

Fans of musicals can therefore be sure of seeing some of the biggest names in the business when attending a performance of the Phantom of the Opera.

Her Majesty's Theatre can be found in Haymarket, and is accessible from a number of central London tube stations including Charing Cross, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.
