See the world in a city when you visit London

24th January 2014

London may be the British capital, but one of the things that makes the city unique is its cosmopolitan nature, with just about every nationality and culture on the planet represented in some way, shape or form here.

So, if you're looking for something a little more exotic than red telephone boxes and fish and chips but don't have the time or money to travel overseas, then London is the perfect place to come, as you'll be able to discover the four corners of the globe in the city.

London's Chinatown, for example, is one of the most iconic oriental neighbourhoods in the world, and is considered on a par with Chinatown in New York and San Francisco. Located next to Leicester Square, it's easy to visit when you're exploring the city centre and is home to some world-class Chinese restaurants, shops and other attractions.

For something a little different, why not take a stroll along the Regent's Canal to Little Venice – so-called because of the resemblance it bears to the famous Italian city, which is defined by its iconic waterways.

Here, you'll find loads of great Italian eateries, while the area is also known for its many small theatres, so it's a great place to come if you're interested in art and culture.

Brixton, meanwhile, is sometimes referred to as Little Jamaica, thanks to its strong connections to Caribbean culture, and while in the past it may have had a reputation for being run-down and crime-ridden, today it is one of the most vibrant and fashionable areas of London, boasting a wealth of great reggae bars and clubs, among many other amenities.

The nearby area of Clapham is strongly associated with Antipodean culture, with Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans having set up businesses here, while further north, you'll find the capital's best Turkish restaurants in Dalston.
