Take your kids on a traditional tour of London

29th October 2012

Half term may have only just begun, but many parents will have already found that the kids are starting to get under their feet at home.

But rather than plonking them down in front of the television or sending them off to a friend's house for the day, why not ward off boredom by treating your youngsters to a city break in the capital?

Because not only are there a whole range of fun activities planned for children in the capital over the half term break, but even just visiting all the traditional London attractions can be a great experience for youngsters.

In fact, recent research by Travelodge has revealed that London sights dominate the list of most iconic landmarks in the UK - with historic attractions proving more popular than more modern ones.

Topping the list of iconic landmarks - as voted for by six to16-year olds - is Big Ben, while the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye all made it into the top five.

"It's fantastic news that young Britons are keen to preserve our heritage," said Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed.

"Nearly all of the attractions to make the children’s top ten list of iconic British landmarks have historical significance.

So if you've got a spare couple of days this half term, it's well worth booking into central London hotels and treating your kids on a tour of the capital, taking in some of the most historical attractions.

Either hop on a special tour bus that will take you on a trip around the capital, or lace up your most comfy shoes and take in the London landmarks on foot.

Major attractions such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, South Bank and Trafalgar Square are all in easy walking distance of one another, and you can always jump on a Tube if you fancy going further afield.
