Top restaurant team open new steakhouse

28th November 2011

Foodies staying in luxury hotels in London may be interested in visiting one of the capital's top new steak joints, 34.

Recently opened in opulent Grosvenor Square, in the heart of Mayfair and ideally located for those staying at hotels in Marble Arch, 34 focuses on serving carefully sourced meat and seasonal game.

"The centrepiece of the kitchen is a bespoke charcoal grill, imported from Argentina," explained the venue.

"The beef served at 34 includes Scottish dry-aged grass-fed, Australian Wagyu, US prime Creekstone Farm and free-range organic grass-fed beef from northern Argentina."

Additionally, diners can enjoy salt-marsh lamb from the British Isles, seasonal game and fish as well as shellfish from sustainable sources.

Its lavish interior was designed by Martin Brudnizki, who took inspiration from English, Edwardian and Art Deco styles.

The effect is a classic style of white linens, leather seating and modern art hanging from the walls.

Billing itself as "a place for carnivores", customers can order up large, 900g T-bones from Kansas or the restaurant's signature burger, served with Mayfield cheese, foie gras and a truffle.

Desserts include a clementine meringue, a large butterscotch sponge pudding, and a sloe gin fizz jelly.

This new location has been started by the team behind famed restaurant The Ivy, Caprice Holdings, as well as other city gems such as J Sheekey, Le Caprice, Daphne's, Scott's and many more.

Head chef Paul Brown will be serving up the sizzling steaks, having studied alongside his brother and making his name at Daphne's.

The star-cook also worked as chef de partie at Le Caprice and with Anthony Demitri at the Michelin-starred Putney Bridge.

"My American father introduced me to great steak as a child and I have loved it ever since. I hope that at 34 we will serve the best steak in the capital," commented Caprice chairman Richard Caring.
