What to do in and around King's Cross

20th November 2013

In years gone by, King's Cross in central London had a bit of a bad reputation, and was generally perceived to be run-down and crime ridden.

However, in more recent times this part of the capital has really cleaned up its act and is now one of the safest and most vibrant parts of the city, with loads to see and do.

For starters, anyone arriving in London by train at St Pancras station will not fail to notice that the transport hub itself is shiny and new, and full of interesting cafes and shops, as well as other charming features like a grand piano, which is free to play.

The station also leads into the stunning St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which was reopened in 2011 following several years of refurbishment and is a great place to stop for a drink or even just a look around before heading out into the heart of the city.

Once you get out on the street, the world really will be your oyster, with King's Cross being one of the most well-connected parts of London. Several tube lines pass through the underground station and there are lots of buses too, although you'll also find that you're within walking distance of loads of great attractions.

Head west along Euston Road, for example, and in less than five minutes you'll reach the British Library, which is one of the biggest and best book depositories in the world and regularly holds special exhibitions.

Alternatively, walking east on Pentonville Road will lead you to Angel in Islington, which is one of London's most popular nightlife districts and is bursting with great bars, restaurants and shops. You'll also find the O2 Islington Academy here, which is one of the city's top live music venues.

Closer to King's Cross itself are bars and clubs like Scala and the Big Chill House, both of which stay open well into the night and regularly host bands and DJs.
