Things to See and Do in Tube Zone 1

London is a sprawling metropolis of a city, so for many, sticking close to the centre is a great way to pack plenty of sightseeing into their trip. All of these great locations are reachable within Tube Zone 1 for the ideal speedy tour of some of London’s major landmarks.

St Paul’s Cathedral

Reachable via St Paul’s Underground Station, St Paul’s Cathedral is a world-famous sight within London’s skyline, and a major location to visit during your stay in the city at the Montcalm Royal London House. The property has a world-famous dome and is open not only for regular worship, but for tours and special Royal events.

There has been a cathedral in this space for over 1,400 years, situated at the highest point of the City of London. The current incarnation of the cathedral was designed in the 17th century by Sir Christopher Wren, and presents a lavish, baroque style. It is often used in promotional material for the city, given its iconic status.

Tower of London

If it’s the history you’re looking for, then the Tower of London is a fantastic place to start! Having seen several different incarnations in its long life, the tower has served as a Royal castle, a prison and even a zoo for a time – before becoming the popular tourist attraction it is today. Not only can you look around the cells which have housed some of London’s most notorious historical prisoners, but today visitors get close to the Crown Jewels, housed beneath the tower.

The Barbican

You can get to The Barbican via Barbican Underground Station, and a trip here is sure to impress guests at Montcalm hotels. Designed in ‘brutalist’ style, the venue is an architectural wonder and also provides a range of different activities covering everything from the arts to libraries, workshops and much more. Highly recommended for a day of browsing in Zone 1.

Tate Modern

One of London’s most significant artistic venues, and amongst the most notable art galleries worldwide, the Tate Modern provides a range of both permanent and temporary exhibitions which showcase some of the most remarkable works of contemporary art. There’s plenty of ‘classic’ modern pieces here, as well as great new and emerging talent for you to discover. A trip here would make the ideal afternoon activity before heading to Hankies London at The Montcalm Marble Arch for dinner and drinks.

Tower Bridge

Thames Embankment and Tower Bridge at Sunset, London, United Kingdom

The most iconic bridge in the city, Tower Bridge includes an exhibition for visitors who want to discover more of the history behind the venue. If you’d rather just have a look from the nearby Queen’s Walk promenade, it remains as a noted site for those staying in and around Zone 1. Ideal for anyone eager to grab some stunning photography, be sure to check the official bridge lift times at the Tower Bridge website if you’d like to see this impressive London mainstay in action.
