Into India: A Barbican Library Foyer Exhibition

This exhibit displays the work of Indian-born painter and printmaker Susan Sands. Her work has a strong attachment to her birthplace, and Sands has stated she often returns to a small village in the country to document the realities of rural life. With work which encompasses a real richness and detail, Into India gives a stunning glimpse of an artist who loves their chosen subject a great deal. Unclaimed: The Liminal Space

This exhibition focuses on the untold stories behind ageing, as new data suggests more and more of us will reach our 100th birthday. In a society which is largely concerned with youth, the exhibit takes a closer look at the narratives which surround ageing, and call upon the viewer to really think about what it will be like for them. Aided by tools including talking shoes and seemingly ‘magic’ binoculars, a trip here is a great way to bring growing old to life, and will challenge your own ideas about age. As a thought-provoking event during your stay At The Montcalm Marble Arch, this can’t be bettered.
It’s Not (Only) Rock N’ Roll

With more than 30 years of entertainment photography to his name, Mark Allan has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including David Bowie, Tina Turner and Britney Spears. In this exhibition, Allan showcases some of his most daring imagery. Starting out photographing Freddie Mercury at Live Aid, the photographer has since developed a diverse portfolio of work which has recently included some of the world’s most impressive conductors. While staying at Montcalm hotels, this is a great way to get closer to music history.
Aperitif Masterclass with Lillet

This masterclass provides a great way to learn a new skill while visiting the Barbican this month. The aperitif in question is Lillet, designed in 1872 and hailing from Bordeaux. The skills required to make it have been passed down ever since. Tickets include welcome drinks, nibbles and a lesson.
Royal Opera House Live: Faust
30th April 2019
Bringing the drama of 1870s Paris to life, this stage play tells the tale of Faust – a man who traded his soul for a shot at power and youth. With a strong chorus line and incredible sets, the production gives viewers spectacle on a grand scale – and helps recreate a truly lavish opera-house scene.
