Great Family Day Trips In And Close To London

Whilst London itself is full to the brim with amazing events and activities, there’s a lot to be said for the surrounding area’s rich landscapes and stellar family days out. This is unsurprising, London was specifically built where it is today back in the 4th century because of its easy access to the sea and proximity to trading routes and other towns. The Thames flows right into the North Sea afterall, and the surrounding land has grown into not just commuter towns and cities, but areas with their own distinct heritage and characteristics. Guests at luxury accommodation in London then will have no problem finding ways to spend their trip in the English capital.

This blog will explore some of the most fun-filled, eclectic and memorable days out for families staying at the London Montcalm Marble Arch. Spanning from central London excursions to day trips out of the city, you could spend a year in the city and no day would have to be the same.

Cotswolds

The Cotswolds are easily reachable from Paddington Station and an AONB reserve of the UK. Within close proximity to tourist-frequented cities and towns such as Stroud and Oxford, the rolling hills and pastoral beauty of this Southwest England region could have you never wanting to leave this bucolic area at all.

Margate

This London getaway is often frequented by city slicker tourists who are more and more frequently upping sticks and making their homes here. With the town’s classic coastal promenade and pier as well as the burgeoning arts scene, it’s clear to see why. Make sure to visit the Turner Gallery for some North Sea facing contemporary art, all for free as well, whilst the colourful funfair attractions of Dreamland will definitely draw in the kids.

Brighton

Probably the best known South of England beach city, Brighton is a must for guests at spa deals London hotels looking for a progressive, vibrant and fun filled city by the sea. Kids will love the roller coasters and helter skelters of the Palace Pier whilst historically minded adults and kids alike will no doubt want to tour the eccentric Prince Regent’s Regency era oddity and Indian inspired Pavilion palace.

LegoLand

Families of all ages visiting LegoLand will find something to put a smile on their faces at this miniature city making, dragon slaying Lego paradise. From the charming tableaus to the family-friendly thrill rides, LegoLand offers a quirky refresher from the more seriously minded theme parks surrounding London.

Exhibition Row

For a rainy autumn day, tourists in Central London might turn to the free-admission museums of South Kensington. This holy trinity of museums are all situated on one road and just a stone’s throw from Hyde Park, and consist of the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum. The holy trinity of South Kensington Museums. Though we say these three museums are a day trip, these are some of the largest museums in London and could take a good day each for the completists.

Each museum is designed specifically for families, providing informative and interesting history and science exhibits as well as ancient art and photography at the V&A. All the permanent exhibitions at these three museums are free to visit and incorporate fun and interactive installations, meaning visitors of all ages will enjoy the fossils, science experiments and ancient decorative artworks of these three fascinating and historic museums.
