The Must-See Attractions Near Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf is not an area most Londoners will associate with tourist attractions; as a thriving centre of industry during the week, at the weekend it’s far quieter, and does not immediately scream ‘vacation’ – but there’s a surprising amount to see and do in the region if you’re willing to give it a chance…

Visit the Museum of London Docklands

This museum charts the surprisingly varied and rich history of the area, documenting everything from the early Roman settlement to the construction of Canary Wharf itself. The museum is one of the lesser-known attractions if the city, but it’s certainly well worth a look for those staying at Montcalm London City and eager to see a different side of the capital.

The exhibition and galleries of the museum are truly fascinating for anyone who’s ever wanted to look deeper into how the city became the international powerhouse it is today.

Shop till you drop

Who among us doesn’t love the opportunity to indulge in a little retail therapy from time to time? Canary Wharf is great for shoppers, with the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre offering over 300 shops, restaurants and bars to a delighted clientele. Whether you’re seeking department stores or simply want to grab a bite to eat, head here from spa hotels in London for some year-round shopping in the area.

Check out some local art

One of the area’s other undiscovered treats, Canary Wharf is packed full of wonderful public art, with one of the UK’s largest collections.  There is even an art map you can download to discover more of the ‘Art on the Estate’, and this vast selection makes for a wonderful chance to explore great artists in their element while visiting the Montcalm London City.

Enjoy a green space

Its true that the green spaces of Canary Wharf are not as extensive as in some other areas of London, but Jubilee Park (and its ducks!) offer a delightful space to watch the world go by, with benches to relax and enjoy the summer sunshine during your spa break in London. There’s also Canada Square Park, an enclosed parkland amid the looming skyscrapers which are so iconic of this region. The Crossrail Place Roof Garden offers an even more impressive space, with the garden also incorporating a thoroughly unique performance space for dance and spoken-word shows all year round.

Visit an upcoming event

Canary Wharf hosts regular events throughout the year, encompassing everything from talks right through to specialised markets during the summer months, perfect for picking up local produce and fascinating finds you won’t discover anywhere else in the city. With pop-up vintage fairs, Shakespeare performances and painting classes all on offer, Canary Wharf is an area of unexpectedly eclectic culture, and a vibrant hub not only of trade but of activities and exciting things to see and do come rain or shine, every day of the week.
