Three Theatre Shows to See this Month in London

London has one of the healthiest theatre scenes of any city in the world, and that means there’s always a selection of great shows out there.

But there are so many theatres and shows that, sometimes, knowing what to go and see can feel a little daunting – especially if you’ve never visited London before. And that’s why we’ve put together this short list of three unmissable shows that are running throughout October. All of the venues are easy to get to from Montcalm London City, so there’s no reason to miss out on a great night of theatre.

Strictly Ballroom

When Strictly Ballroom his cinemas back in 1992, it was a riotous whirlwind of colour, imagination and fantastic dancing. It was the little film that could, going on to earn millions.

And the stage version of the beloved film manages to retain the same kinetic, high-energy style, while also doing a fantastic job of casting the perfect actors for the lead roles. This production – playing at the Piccadilly Theatre – feels fresh and new but still manages to lovingly incorporate its source material. The theatre is easy to get to from Montcalm’s many 5 star boutique hotels London, so you don’t have far to travel for a great show.

At its root, Strictly Ballroom is a story about struggling towards a dream while those around you have other plans, and there’s no compromise here when it comes to impactful, emotional performances.

Mamma Mia

Although the film – and its recent sequel – were great, it’s with the theatre production where the Mamma Mia story began. The musical debuted all the way back in 1999, and public appetite for the show hasn’t abated since.

And there’s a good reason for that because Mamma Mia is basically a perfect piece of musical theatre. It nails the musical element with a fantastic soundtrack – all flawlessly performed by the large cast – and it doesn’t shy away from emotional gut punches when they’re right for the story. It’s a story about young love, old loves, families, friendship and more, and the casting here is spot-on.

Mamma Mia is playing throughout August – and beyond – at the Novello Theatre, and it’s your chance to catch one of the best pieces of musical theatre in the world – and the Novello Theatre is only a short hop from Montcalm London City.

Kinky Boots

Playing at the Adelphi Theatre, Kinky Boots takes inspiration from a true story, and it’s all about dreams versus reality, and how sometimes the two can find a meeting point.

The story revolves around a young man – Charlie – who inherits a failing shoe-making business from his father. Charlie can’t see any way to turn the business around until he meets a local drag performer by the name of Lola, who inspires him to shift the focus of the factory towards an entirely unexplored market. There’s family drama in the background and conflict between tradition and modernity, and this version of the story does a fantastic job knitting all of those themes together.
