One of the latest frenzies to take hold over London’s Christmas dining scene in recent years is the igloo. In fact, the Montcalm Hotel has been gripped by this ‘cool’ phenomenon too!

Cosy little pods have been popping up all over the centre of the city the past few winters, providing Londoners and tourists with a snuggly refuge whilst temperatures plummet over the colder months. The igloos bring some woodland spirit to the capital’s urban streets and look magical by night.

The cubbies typically dish up festive nibbles and drinks – think fondue, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and soul-warming English tea. Overall, they’re a magical place to chill with friends or colleagues!

When you’re booking London hotel deals for this Christmas, check out our favourite 6 winter igloos which are now open for bookings in London. Once you’re all huddled up in your toasty quarters, cross your fingers for snow, and listen for the sound of Santa’s sleigh bells…

1) Igloos at the Aviary

10th Floor, Montcalm Royal London House Hotel, 22-25 Finsbury Square, EC2A 1DX

Perched on the 10th floor of the Montcalm Royal London House, you will find the three luxury igloos upon Aviary’s rooftop bar and terrace. These domes are a permanent feature year-round, which, over the Christmas period are transformed into some of the most stylish, opulent igloos in town – enough to make the Arctic Circle envious!

At this height, the igloos provide a sensational view across the City’s skyscrapers. The igloos are available to hire as part of a package, which is perfect for groups seeking London hotel deals or business outings (max. 10 people). Starting at £300 for a one and a half hour session, the deal includes a bar tab, welcome cocktails and festive platters perfect for sharing. It’ll be love at ‘frost’ sight when you see the food arriving! This year, Aviary has teamed up with Talisker Whiskey on their ‘Skye-line’ campaign to keep guests warm and content as they savour the skyline and sip a hot whiskey toddy.

2) Coppa Club Tower Bridge

3 Three Quays Walk, Lower Thames Street, EC3R 6AH

Coppa Club was one of the first bars in London to venture into igloos, and they’re still going strong. This cluster of fairy-lit igloos front London’s famed South Bank and offer stunning views of London’s riverbank including sights of Tower Bridge and The Shard. They are kitted out in cruelty-free sheepskin rugs, recycled wool blankets, ambient candles and evergreen trees. The food is Euro-chic; think sourdough pizzas, hearty pasta, nourishing salads and grilled meats. Delicious breakfasts are served with fresh coffee or mugs of English tea. They also serve a three-course Christmas menu with all the festive trimmings for £35.95. Wash it all down with a festive cocktail or fine glass of wine – you won’t ever want to leave.

3) Skylight

Tobacco Dock, Pennington Street entrance, St Katharine’s and Wapping, E1W 2SF

For a more hipster-esque igloo experience in London, look no further than Skylight which can be found in the sleekly converted carpark of Tobacco Dock in east London. As well as four igloos which seat up to 10 guests, the upper mezzanine includes private mountain huts where you can gorge on roasted chestnuts and mulled cider under a snuggly rug.

They have a very impressive cocktail list which includes your favourite classics, as well as warming Christmas-themed infusions such as the Apple Crumble, Bacardi Bramble and The Bonfire. Food options include gourmet burgers and hearty Greek dishes. Skylight also features Europe’s only rooftop ice rink as well as an ice-hockey shoot out range, so you can team your igloo dining experience with some winter games or show off your skating moves. Best way to keep warm this Christmas, besides finding refuge at the Montcalm Hotel!

4) Jimmy’s Winter Igloos

Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, Southbank, SE1 8XX

This year, Jimmy’s have partnered with Martin Miller’s Gin to install a Northern Lights spectacle to transport revellers all the way to Iceland! Decorated in Icelandic textures these igloos will lure in locals and tourists with their Hygge factor. The igloos fit 10 people and work on a minimum spend basis of £600. Feast upon alpine fondue, delectable steak served on a hot stone and classic French styled dishes paired with mulled wine, craft beer or Christmas cocktails including hot apple mojitos and hot toddies. Trust us, you’ll find nothing remotely frosty at Jimmy’s Lodge!

5) Winterland

Albert Wharf, Fulham, SW6 2TY

Over in the friendly stretches of west London, Fulham’s riverside presents this year’s Winterland. Blending the best of alpine, Canadian and Scandinavian delights, Winterland features a hot tub with a view of the Thames and games including skittles and table tennis. They have two igloos available for private hire, which seat up to 8 guests and packages start at £110 per session.

The igloos are set within the ‘forest’ of Winterland. Winterland also offers five cabins, as an alternative to igloos. Snap up afternoon tea London deals by day, and head to Winterland for a night of festive revelry après style.

6) The Sipping Room

16 Hertsmere Road, Canary Wharf, E14 4AX

In the heart of London’s secondary CBD, Canary Wharf, you’ll find the Nordic Lights B’igloos of The Sipping Room. As the name suggests, these are larger than your average family-sized igloo – they can hold a whopping 40 guests! Inside these igloos, guests will be transported to a magical Icelandic landscape, courtesy of the most enchanting of gins – Martin Miller’s Gin – which forms the basis of many festive cocktails. We recommend sipping on their signature Northern Lights or banish the winter blues with a Hot Gin Toddy. At least if you wake up with a fuzzy head, you’ll be in the delightful comfort of your hotel room here at Montcalm.
