9 Things to Do if it Snows in London

Don’t let the snow get you down! London is a city built for all weather, and there’s no reason to limit your travels. In this blog, we’ll take a look at some of the best things to do if you find yourself caught in snowy weather while staying in the city.

See a film at a London cinema

London offers an array of great cinemas, including large multiplexes and smaller, more luxurious venues. When the snow starts to fall, this is a great way to get away from it all. Electric Cinema in Shoreditch is a particularly fantastic place to escape the snow, and offers plush seating, individual table lamps and a vintage feel.

It’s an accessible way to experience London luxury while enjoying the latest London hotel deals during the colder months of the year. In addition, the winter months (when there’s likely to be snow) are great times for cinema fans, as there’s usually a wide variety of fantastic new movies to discover.

Visit a London museum

There’s a huge number of fantastic museums across London, so you’ll never be far from one whilst staying at a Montcalm Hotel. Whatever your interest, there’s sure to be a museum to match!

This is a great snow day activity, giving you a chance to get to know more about everything from art to design, sport, science and even transport. A few of our favourite museums include the London Transport Museum, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum. The British Museum is another fantastic find for you to explore during your stay in the city.

Go for a walk in London’s parks

London also offers an abundance of Royal Parks and green spaces, which all look particularly beautiful when it snows. If you feel like having a snowball fight or even making a snowman, these are great places to visit.

In wintry weather, you could even find there’re fewer crowds, leaving you free to explore your very own winter wonderland. We recommend checking out Hyde Park, one of London’s most active Royal Parks, and Richmond Park, a sprawling space where you can also visit the resident deer.

This is a delightful way to spend a snowy day in the city, and will also provide opportunities to take some amazing photographs of the local scenery.

Warm up with a hot chocolate

If the chilly weather is too cold for comfort, then head to a London cafe and grab a hot chocolate. There are a few particularly fantastic places in the city which specialise in sweet treats. These include Chin Chin Laboratories, a Camden cafe which serves up its own take on hot chocolate with a healthy serving of marshmallow for the ideal indulgent drink.

If you’re in Soho, then you should try SAID dal 1923, a cafe connected to Rome’s oldest chocolate factory and a specialist in Italian chocolates. Here you can create your order down to the minutest of details, selecting the type of chocolate used and any additional trimmings which you want to add.

Treat yourself to an afternoon tea

Afternoon tea has become one of the city’s favourite pastimes. An accessible yet luxurious way to celebrate special occasions, we offer one of the best afternoon tea London deals, giving you access to a variety of both traditional and more unconventional treats.

If this is your chosen way to stay out of the snow, you’ll be able to enjoy the views while sampling tasty cakes, sandwiches and teas on your visit

Get healthy at a local fitness class

When it starts to snow, this is the perfect opportunity to experience London’s buzzing health and fitness scene. There’s a wide array of incredible fitness classes for you to try, including everything from dance classes to yoga, high-intensity gym workouts and everything in-between.

Enjoying a workout is a fantastic way to get away from the colder weather and keep on top of your fitness goals, but it’ll also help you see a side to the city which might otherwise have been overlooked.

Visit a London church

London has a number of stunning historic churches and cathedrals. They provide atmospheric places of worship, but also provide lots of opportunities to simply admire the architecture or even enjoy a music concert during your visit to London.

St Martin in the Fields Church has become particularly well-known for its evening classical music recitals, and you could visit the in-house ‘Cafe in the Crypt’ to try some English tea without braving the chilly weather outside. This historic space has been converted into a cafe, and has been a major tourist favourite for the last thirty years.

If you want to stay warm and cosy but still experience one of London’s most fascinating sights, this is a great way to do so.

Explore the Tower of London

Don’t let the snow stop you from visiting some of London’s top tourist attractions. Many of these can still be enjoyed when the snow is falling, particularly the Tower of London.

This historic venue has undergone several transformations over the centuries. Starting life as a Norman fortress, it soon became a prison, and was later a zoo for exotic animals. More recently, the tower has become a major hotspot for visitors to the city, and a treasure trove for anyone eager to learn more about the city’s past.

Indulge in some retail therapy

Londoners don’t take their fantastic shopping opportunities for granted, and neither should you! If it’s snowing, then the appeal of a cosy shop will no doubt be even greater than usual. In the UK capital, there’re plenty of great stores to choose from.

We recommend browsing one of the huge department stores which the city has to offer, such as Selfridges or Liberty London. These provide floor upon floor of luxury items and a great place to escape the snow for a couple of hours.
