A Morning at Embankment – Where to Go and What to See

During your visit to London, you’re likely to pass through the area known as Embankment. Right in the heart of the city, it’s within easy reach of both public transport and a number of popular tourist attractions. Here’s our brief rundown of how to spend a morning here…

London Eye

This world-famous tourist attraction is now synonymous with the London skyline, and it can provide you with a unique vantage point of the city during your stay at the Montcalm Hotel London.

With glass pods which can also be rented out for an upscale take on a traditional London Eye spin, this enormous Ferris wheel attracts visitors from all over the world. Though initially built to commemorate the turn of the new millennium and intended to last for just a few years, the London Eye has continued to grow in popularity. To get a little closer to this city landmark yourself, all you need to do is head for the Embankment.

Trafalgar Square

Designed by architect John Nash in the 1920s and brought to life in the 1830s, this is one of London’s major tourist spots as well as a space where you’ll find plenty of locals relaxing. A trip to this historic square will take you a few minutes from the Embankment Tube station.

This area is filled with lots of incredible sights such as the famed Nelson’s Column, built to commemorate Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. The area surrounding this iconic structure has changed dramatically since the 1800s, and it’s now surrounded by a wide variety of incredible museums and galleries sure to pique your interest during your stay at 5-star hotels in London. Of particular interest, the National Gallery has some of Europe’s most remarkable artworks from famed masters like Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Monet.

Every Christmas, Norway donates an enormous Christmas tree which dominates the square – so you’re in luck if you’re visiting during the winter! Close to Trafalgar Square, you’ll also find a vast array of fantastic buildings like the stunning church, St Martin-in-the-Fields. You’re also perfectly situated for a visit to Covent Garden for some shopping or to pop and see a show in London’s West End – a must during your stay at the Montcalm London.

Head Back to Your Hotel

If all that exploring gets too much, you can always head back to your base at the Montcalm and relax in our stunning boutique style surroundings. Whether you simply want to kick back in your hotel room, or would prefer to have a meal at the on-site restaurant or a drink at our welcoming bar, there’s plenty of great ways to spend your time.

The wellness spa is also on hand to offer a range of fantastic treatments designed to help you unwind, including facial treatments, body treatments and a selection of massages sure to leave you ready to take on the city once more.
