Afternoon Tea At The Montcalm London

Afternoon tea is one of those quintessentially British traditions that simply can’t be overlooked when visiting London. Originally introduced in the early 1840s as a way to stave off afternoon hunger pangs while waiting for your evening meal, nowadays afternoon tea is an indulgent activity in itself, with thousands of people enjoying it every day.

Here at the Montcalm Hotel, we offer our own version of afternoon tea, which is perfect for treating a loved one or indulging with your family. If you’d like to make a booking for afternoon tea at our hotel, get in touch with one of our dining team today. Here’s a little more about our offering, and the tradition of afternoon tea in general.

What Does Afternoon Tea Involve?

An authentic afternoon tea usually includes a variety of nibbles, including sandwiches (which are traditionally cut into fingers, so they’re easy to eat), as well as cakes and sweet pastries. Scones weren’t a part of the earliest incarnations of afternoon tea – they were introduced later, but have become an essential part of the tradition, with generous helpings of clotted cream and jam.

Of course, afternoon tea wouldn’t be complete without a pot of tea – loose leaf is generally best. Champagne is also served, as many people see afternoon tea as a way to celebrate or treat themselves, and sipping a glass of bubbly is the best way to do that.

Afternoon Tea At The Montcalm Hotel

You can book a range of different packages at our luxury accommodation London, with an option to suit everyone – including little ones.

Our first option is a traditional afternoon tea for two. You’ll enjoy dainty finger sandwiches with a range of fillings, as well as homemade scones made right here in our kitchens. Whipped cream and strawberry jam will be included as standard, and it’ll be served up with a pot of JING loose leaf tea for you and your guest.

If you’re celebrating and would like to enjoy a more indulgent experience, you can book our champagne afternoon tea package. This includes the classic finger sandwiches and homemade scones from our first package, with the addition of sweet biscuits and a tiered cake stand packed to the brim with mouth-watering cakes in a variety of flavours. Each guest will receive a pot of JING loose leaf tea, and their own glass of bubbly from our bar.

If you’re travelling with family, your little ones will not be overlooked. We all know how children love to hold their own tea parties for their stuffed animals, and they’ll get to join in with the adults with their very own ‘Teddy’s Tea Time’ menu. This includes fresh fruit dipped in chocolate, flavoured ice cream, a variety of cakes and pastries, and an iced fruit cordial. All children who enjoy Teddy’s Tea Time will also receive a complimentary Montcalm teddy bear to take home with them and serve afternoon tea whenever they wish.

The Crescent Restaurant and Lounge

Afternoon tea is served in our opulent Crescent Restaurant and Lounge. In luxurious surroundings, decorated in frothy peach with shimmering copper highlights, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy a truly decadent afternoon tea experience.
