The Best Pop-Up Cinemas to Visit this July

When it comes to movies, London has a huge range of cinemas – from the small and independent to the biggest IMAX experiences. Whilst a visit to the cinema is always great, it’s even better when you’re seeing a classic film in a totally unique location. And this is exactly what a pop-cinema offers – an amazing cinema and a one-off experience.

Happily, London is home to an array of pop-up cinema offerings, all different and all offering a new film-viewing experience. So let’s take a look at what’s happening in July.

The Grand Presents

The Grand is known as one of the most famous theatres in London, but it also does a great side-line in pop up cinema. Even better, it’s only 30-minutes by Tube from your Montcalm Hotel.

The Grand Presents is a full-on, multi-faceted pop-up cinema experience. You can expect unlimited £1 popcorn, themed cocktails, hot dogs and a truly humongous screen – probably one of the biggest in London. Offerings in July include ‘Mulan’ on Saturday, 7th July and a sing-along presentation of ‘The Greatest Showman’ on the 21st July. It’s the perfect place for a family cinema experience unlike any other. Round off the perfect family bonding session with Montcalm Afternoon Tea, what could be better?

The surroundings are absolutely magnificent and The Grand is one of the most beautiful places you will ever see a film.

Movies on the River

What could be better than an evening movie on the Thames? That’s exactly what Movies on the River provides and it’s one of the most unique pop-up movie nights in London.

The departure point is Tower Pier, with the departure time set at 8.30pm, so you’ve got the day to indulge in one of our many Montcalm hotel spa deals before heading out for a night of film on the river.

Offerings in July include ‘Grease’ on Tuesday 10th July, the classic ‘Casablanca’ on Saturday the 14th and the hilarious ‘Some Like it Hot’ on Tuesday 17th July. They have a very full roster of movies, so it’s worth checking out the full listings to see if any of your favourites are on.

Rivoli Pop Up Cinema

Taking place in the Rivoli Ballroom, this is another great venue for film. The setting – as it is a plush ballroom, after all – is beautiful Victoriana all the way through. It’s a great experience watching a film under the great, domed ceiling, and one a world away from the standard cinema. It’s about a 40-minute journey from your Montcalm Hotel, and definitely worth the effort.

They have a trio of films on in July, each one a classic in its own way. ‘Some Like it Hot’ (which seems to be popular on the pop up cinema scene) is showing on 18th July. Gangster classic ‘Goodfellas’ will be screened on Thursday, 19th July and Spielberg’s ‘Jaws’ is showing on the 20th July.

It’s a great roster of films and any one of these venues offers a unique and amazing film-going experience.
