Best sporting events coming up in London

London and sport go hand in hand. Whether cultivating homegrown talent or hosting some of the brightest talents in the sporting world, there are few cities where you can be as sure of a chance to enjoy the very best sporting events this year. Here’s our rundown of some of the best ones to look forward to in 2018…

FA Cup Final 2018

May 2018

The FA Cup Final is one of the oldest (and longest-running) football tournaments in the world, first held in 1871. The event continues to grow year on year, with teams across the spectrum of different leagues, meaning even smaller teams have their chance to shine.

The event takes place at Wembley Stadium this year, and if you’re lucky enough to get tickets to the event itself, you’ll be in for a real treat! However, if you miss out, there’s still plenty of ways to watch the final across London. As a football-mad city, there are lots of different places to soak up the sporting atmosphere in a pub or sports bar surrounded by other football fans. There are usually plenty of opportunities to enjoy a drink and a hot meal, too – making this the luxurious way to indulge your love of sport while staying at The Montcalm London Marble Arch.

Vitality Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018

21st July 2018 – 5th August 2018

Women’s hockey is one of the fastest-growing competitive sports out there, and this year England will be battling against 15 other nations in an attempt to become world champions at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The England team has reason to be optimistic, having already been crowned EuroHockey champions. This would be a great event for both established hockey fans and those eager to learn more about the sport whilst visiting our Park Lane hotel.

Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final 2018

25th August 2018

Ladbrokes Challenge Cup is one of the most significant rugby events in the world, and this year it returns with even more fantastic competitors looking to take the main title. Hull FC won in both 2016 and 2017, so they’ll be looking to make it three times in a row – and they’ll be competing alongside 19-time champions the Wigan Warriors and 70 teams from England, Scotland and Wales. There’ll be great sporting action, live music and entertainment – perfect for a sport-filled day out during your trip to The Montcalm London Marble Arch.

Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships

2nd July – 15th July 2018

This world-famous fortnight of tennis hosts the globe’s finest tennis players battling it out to be named Wimbledon champion. It also features a delighted audience of around 500,000 spectators yearly, who flock for the tennis and other mainstays such as the ever-present Pimms and strawberries and cream on offer to tennis fans. Tickets can be tricky to get hold of, but if you manage it, you’ll be taking part in a major sporting event.
