Fun Things to Do In And Around Olympic Park This Bank Holiday

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is one of the foremost visitor attractions in London, providing plenty to see and do for all the family. Opened after the venue hosted the 2012 London Olympic Games, the Olympic Park has since grown into a popular space for days out. Here’s our guide to the best things to do there and within the surrounding area this Bank Holiday…

The ArcelorMittal Orbit

With floor-to-ceiling windows providing stunning views of the city from above, the ArcelorMittal Orbit is a part observation deck, part piece of art. 80M above the ground, this is a fantastic way to see areas like St Paul’s Cathedral, the 02 and Big Ben while you visit The Montcalm Hotel.

The Slide

Offering a 40-second trip through the twists and turns of the world’s longest, tallest tunnel, the Slide takes you around ArcelorMittal Orbit until you reach the ground. It’s not an experience for those with a fear of heights, but for anyone brave enough to give it a go, this is a fantastic, high-octane experience during your trip to the Olympic Park.

Sports Venues

Having hosted both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, there are lots of sporting venues on-site. These include the London Stadium, the Copper Box Arena, and London Aquatics Centre. Lee Valley VeloPark also provides space for track cycling, BMX, mountain biking and road racing, while Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre has state-of-the-art facilities.

Outdoor Attractions

It’s not just rides which attract people to the Olympic Park. There are also lots of more relaxing ways to enjoy your trip, including a number of gardens, meadows, fields and playgrounds. All provide ample quiet ways to make the most of a visit before heading to The Montcalm Marble Arch hotel’s Restaurant for dinner.

Boat Tours

The Olympic Park is situated right beside the River Lea. The river was once used as a major driver for the London economy, but changing times meant they fell out of general use during the latter half of the 20th century. Since being rehabilitated in time for the Olympic Games, the river is now a clean, restored area where visitors can enjoy boat trips which explore the park from a new and exciting angle.

Westfield Stratford City

This shopping centre is one of Europe’s largest venues of its kind, and as it is situated close to the Olympic Park, you won’t have to travel far to indulge in a little retail therapy during your stay at the Montcalm London.

Stratford

You’ll never be short of activities in Stratford, thanks to great venues like Stratford Circus Arts Centre, which provides creative performances and learning opportunities. Elsewhere, the Theatre Royal Stratford East includes not only performances, but a bar and restaurant. Stratford Picturehouse meanwhile provides screenings of the latest and greatest films from around the world, and the property has won a number of awards for great architecture. If you’re travelling with children, then a trip to the Discovery Story Centre is a fantastic way to get children interested in reading, with events for 0-11 year-olds.
