London Highlights in July for Sports Fans

This summer is a rich one for sports fans. There’s the World Cup, of course, but there’s also a lot else going on in the capital throughout July. With its transport links, wealth of venues and generally excitable atmosphere, London is the perfect place to feed your inner sports junkie and sample an array of events. And once you’ve exhausted yourself watching all that sporting exertion, you can retire for the evening and treat yourself at your Montcalm Hotel spa.

Whatever your sporting tastes, or if you just like to sit back, relax and watch the professionals do what they do best, London has got you covered. With that in mind, let’s dive in and see what sporting fare is on offer this July.

Athletics World Cup

Running from the 14th July to 15th, the inaugural Athletics World Cup offers up a host of famous names, all competing in track and field events for their country. Events cover everything from the 1500 metres to discus. The London Stadium venue is only 30-minutes via Tube from your Marble Arch Hotel, so you don’t have very far to travel to see world class athletes going all out for glory.

Each nation puts forward its best competitor for each event, all battling it out for the brand-new Athletics World Cup. In the end, one nation will take the $2 million prize fund. It promises to be an ultra-competitive event with the best athletes in the world going head-to-head.

Wimbledon

Kicking off on 2nd July and running for two solid weeks, Wimbledon is, without a doubt, the most famous and prestigious tennis tournament in the world. More than that, it’s a British institution.

Andy Murray is a doubtful for the tournament, but all the best male and female tennis players in the world will be there and hoping to lift their iconic respective trophies. Treat yourself to some classic Wimbledon fare in the form of strawberries and cream and a spot of champagne, before getting out of the sun and heading back to your Montcalm hotel.

Wimbledon is a great day out, and one of the quintessential London experiences – it doesn’t get more British than tennis, strawberries and politely queueing for a glass of bubbly.

Brompton World Championship Final

This isn’t the Tour De France, but what the Brompton World Championship does offer is something totally unique. Better yet, it’s only 20-minutes from your Montcalm Hotel via the tube.

Bromptons are the small, foldable bikes that are hugely popular in London, and this event is about finding out who is the best at riding an unfeasibly small bike at the fastest speed around the Mall circuit. It’s a great, light-hearted day – but expect some of the riders to be very competitive – and the riders must wear a formal blazer and shirt.

The race attracts participants from around the world, who all want to be crowned the best of the best when it comes to Brompton racing.
