A look at the upcoming exhibitions at the V&A Museum

The Victoria & Albert Museum is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year. Not only is it a stunning location and one of the best museums in the capital, it also runs a robust program of talks, exhibitions and displays. July and August have a great selection to choose from, covering a range of topics sure to pique your interest.

Even better, the V&A Museum is only 20-minutes via Tube from the Montcalm London Marble Arch, so there’s no reason not to check out this summer’s offerings after, say, indulging yourself at the Montcalm Hotel Spa.

Frida Kahlo: Making Herself Up

Presenting a raft of personal effects and clothing, the Frida Kahlo: Making Herself Up exhibition offers an amazing insight into one of the most popular artists of modern times.

Kahlo was known for her innumerable self-portraits and her focus on ‘the self’. One of Kahlo’s defining characteristics was the study and effort she poured into herself as a sort of living work of art. She was known for her striking looks, makeup and clothing – much of which was traditional Mexican dress.

Her popularity has steadily grown since the early 2000s, and she is now a subject of serious debate around ideas of identity, self-expression and the role of the artist in creating art.

It’s a fascinating insight into an equally fascinating artist, and the exhibition opens on 16th June.

The Future Starts Here

This exhibition is already open and will run until November 2018, so you’ve got time to check it out, and you definitely should.

The Future Starts Here is essentially a window into the future – as the name might suggest! The exhibition brings together a huge array of technology – much of it cutting-edge – and postulates how these might change the world as we know it. It’s a great exhibition for anyone who loves technology, but equally as interesting to anyone who wants to see what the world will look like a few decades from now – or perhaps sooner. Staying at our luxury hotels, London, UK you’ll be no more than 30-minutes away from the V&A museum, so go ahead and see what the future has in store.

Jameel Prize 5

Opening on 28th June, Jameel Prize 5 brings together eight contemporary designers and artists, all inspired by Islamic tradition.

The worlds of fashion design, traditional art and multi-media are all here and competing for the Jameel Prize. The ideas and skill on display are out of this world and it’s a great chance to see new artists now, before they make the big time. If you’re staying in our luxury hotels, London, UK, it’s only 20-minutes from the Montcalm London Marble Arch to the V&A.

There’s a great, diverse range of ideas and styles on show, from art that is more recognizable as such through to installations that are made to engage and stimulate thought. It’s a great exhibition and one well worth catching.
