The Circle line is one of the most convenient underground routes in London, providing a handy loop of some of the best attractions and monuments. It’s also located very close to our hotel, with the Edgeware Road station just a short walk away from our premises. This makes us the perfect base for those hoping to do a tour of some of the Circle Line’s top sights.
If you’re staying at Montcalm London City and plan to explore the Circle Line more thoroughly, don’t miss these must-see attractions, which all fall within close proximity of Circle Line stations.
Just one stop down from Edgeware Road is Baker Street, the home of Britain’s most famous fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote that Sherlock Holmes lived at 221b Baker Street – an address which didn’t actually exist at the time of writing. However, the address was soon created – it’s now the Official Sherlock Holmes Museum. There’s also a famous blue plaque at the address, designating it as a notable location.
Whether you want to visit the famous travel bookshop from the movie Notting Hill (yes, it’s still open), or whether you want to check out Portobello Road Market or the Notting Hill carnival, this area should certainly be on your list of places to visit along the Circle Line. This trendy suburb is great for having a coffee with friends, exploring the local boutiques and soaking up the ambience before hopping back on the underground to return to Montcalm London City.
Continue along the Circle Line and you’ll come to High Street Kensington, where more special monuments and attractions await. This is a major shopping area, and home to some beautiful 5-star hotels London, as well as Kensington Palace Gardens – the highest value street in all of the UK. The Royal Albert Hall overlooks it all, of course – and The Queen’s Arms is one of the most famous pubs in the capital, and certainly worth a look.
As you step out of the station at Embankment, you’ll see the enormous London Eye just across the river. Though it was only launched in 2000, it’s become one of the most iconic attractions in London, and a pivotal part of the capital’s skyline. You can pay to ride the London Eye for great views over the city, or you can simply admire it from afar.
Just a little further along the river banks, you’ll find the Westminster stop on the Circle Line. This is home to some of the most famous attractions in the world, including Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster. You can also see Westminster Abbey from here – the famous venue of many royal weddings, most recently the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
This beautiful royal park is one of the most popular in London. The park is situated at the eastern end of a chain of royal parks, which also includes Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. A wander through St James’ Park will also take you to the doorstep (or as close as possible) of Buckingham Palace, and you’ll be within walking distance of sights like Horse Guards, the Mall and Birdcage Walk.
