Tips for Avoiding the Crowds on Your Family Trip to London

Families from up and down the country and all around the world regularly visit London for their holidays, but for even the most dedicated traveller, the crowds can sometimes be a little taxing. Here are our top tips for avoiding the hustle and bustle and enjoying a more tranquil trip in the city on Your Family Trip to London…

Avoid the tourist traps

Yes, it can be tempting to visit the same locations as everyone else – and there’s sure to be a few landmarks or major attractions which you and your family simply can’t resist…but try and plan for visiting some of London’s undiscovered gems, rather than the well-trodden path. The city is filled with things to see and do, but the masses don’t know about all of them – and by taking a different route, you could easily find you see a side to London which you’re unlikely to find by sticking with the herd. Using your luxury accommodation in London as your base, be prepared to research areas you might not have previously considered visiting – and ask locals for advice if you can.

Travel outside peak tourist times

London, like any other major city, has peak times for tourists – so if you’re keen to visit some of the city’s major attractions and yet want to beat the crowds, then plan to travel outside of these times. Early in the year and the period leading into Autumn are both great bets for avoiding the summer and Christmas rush – but be sure to check opening times as some seasonal attractions will be closed to the public during these months. However, if you can plan your trip well, staying at London boutique hotels is great family fun all year round.

Book in advance

Many of London’s tourist attractions allow you to book in advance, and this in turn can lead to a great deal of positive queue jumping without sacrificing on seeing the sights. Check online when planning your itinerary, and be prepared to pay a little extra for the VIP experience where applicable – after all, when staying at luxury accommodation in London you might as well enjoy a luxe way of travelling throughout the trip.

Use public transport wisely

While staying at your Marble Arch hotel, you’re ideally placed for seeing the sights – and also conveniently located near to the city’s fantastic public transport. However, try not to travel at peak times and you’ll have a much more streamlined journey from start to finish! Avoid the commuter rush with more careful planning and a keen understanding of the busiest times of day in London.

Walk around the city

London’s a really great city to be a pedestrian, so why not make the most of it? This is also a way to avoid transport delays and the hectic pace of the city, allowing for a more leisurely way of enjoying your destination alongside all the family.
