A Football Fans Guide To London

London is the undisputed global capital of football. No other city in the world boasts so many stadiums, so many top-flight clubs, and so many avid fans who will support their team come rain or shine.

If you’re a football fan visiting the Montcalm Hotel, you’re in luck. Our central location means you’ll be in close proximity to a number of the top football stadiums – and there’s plenty for the football enthusiast to enjoy when they’re in the capital, even if they can’t get tickets to a game. Here’s our football fans guide to London.

Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium is the home of football in England. It’s the stadium where all international home fixtures are played, and it hasn’t taken long for its relatively new arch to become synonymous with the Three Lions. All major domestic finals in cup competitions take place here too, with the FA Cup Final still considered by many to be the biggest day of the football season.

International matches take place every few months here, with both competitive fixtures and friendlies on the calendar. If your visit to London doesn’t coincide with one of the games, you can still visit Wembley to enjoy a stadium tour. Go behind-the-scenes and see the England dressing room, the press room, the tunnel and the famous pitch itself on this unforgettable tour.

Premier League Football

London is home to no less than five Premier League football clubs: Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur. Other clubs, including Fulham and Queens Park Rangers occasionally find themselves in the top flight, too. If you’re staying at one of our luxury hotels London and hoping to see a Premier League football match, we’d advise trying to bag tickets to see Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur. These teams consistently vie for trophies each year, and their current teams boast some of the world’s best players, including Eden Hazard, Mesut Ozil and Harry Kane.

Non-League Football

Grassroots football has always been a part of British culture. If you’re hoping to immerse yourself in British life and live like a local during your stay at the Montcalm Hotel, why not go to see a non-league football game? Teams such as Bromley, Dulwich Hamlet, Enfield Town and Sutton United all play non-league football, and a day out at one of their fixtures is great for soaking up the community spirit and competitive atmosphere.

Café Football

Founded by footballing legends, this relatively new eatery in Westfield Stratford City features quirky themed dishes including the Hometeam Burger, the Mara Doner pizza and the Nicky Butty sandwich. Football classics like pie and chips are also on the menu, and you can enjoy your meal in fun surroundings, where the shirts of famous players adorn the walls, and even the newspaper the fish and chips is served in looks like a Panini football sticker album. Don’t forget to take a look at the cocktail menu – we particularly like the look of the Red Devil and the Tiki Taka.
