It's safe to say that October 31st is the spookiest night of the year on the social calendar, when ghosts and ghouls come out in droves – although most of them are only about three feet tall and looking for sweets.
For those staying at 5-star hotels in London on Halloween night, you're in for a real treat, as the capital is sure to be full of revellers in fancy dress headed off to events across the city.
The Barbican, for instance, is having a Halloween extravaganza on Wednesday to celebrate All-Hallows' Eve, and visitors will have a variety of art exhibitions, cinematic presentations, dramatic readings and educational talks to choose from.
If you're looking for a bit of a fright at the After Dark Halloween Special, you can watch a collection of animated films from the London International Animation Festival (LIAF) archive. Some of the most chilling, dark and shocking films from the collection of been chosen for the viewing, including The Cat With Hands by Robert Morgan and The Wonder Hospital by Beomsik Shimbe Shim.
Alternatively, you can create your own Halloween-based animation at a workshop headed by Canadian Patrick Jenkins. During the mini course you'll learn how to make a flipbook, and you might even get the chance to enter the LIAF Flipbook Animation Competition.
Other activities going on include having your photograph taken with a ghostly spirit, experiencing a séance with Professor Magos and learning about supernatural beings like werewolves, witches, zombies and vampires at a series of talks put on by The Skeptic magazine and the Welcome Trust.
And if you feel like just sitting back and relaxing on Halloween night, the Barbican's lounge bar will be serving up spooky drinks, such as blood red cocktails.
