Team GB’s triathlon team has been revealed and the chances of gold for the squad remain high.
A total of six have been selected including two members whose main focus will be helping their team mates win medals. Alistair and Jonny Brownlee as well as Stuart Hayes will form the GB men’s team, while Helen Jenkins, Vicky Holland and Lucy Hall will represent the female squad.
It is expected that Hayes and Hall will be given the important role of providing support to Jenkins and Brownlee to help them win their events this summer.
“I’m very happy and 100 per cent committed to my role,” Hall told BBC Sport.
She added: “They made it very clear that if I was going to take this place on the team, I would be going as someone to help Helen Jenkins.
“It would be team tactics – I wouldn’t be going as an individual, which I never thought I would anyway. I know I’m not a fast enough runner.”
Triathlon has developed into a popular sport in recent years and the London 2012 event will be based around the famous Hyde Park. The women’s event will start on August 4th and the men’s race will take place on August 7th.
Competitors in the event will complete a 1500 metre swim, a 43 kilometre bike ride and a 10 kilometre run and it could be a great spectacle for those staying at nearby central London hotels as there are a number of free vantage points along the course.
In particular, spectators should consider heading to Hyde Park Corner or Buckingham Palace early on to get a prime spot. For those based at Marble Arch hotels, then access to Hyde Park is easy via the northern entrance close to the tube station.
