Greenwich Sessions come to the capital in build up to Olympics

26th March 2012

The Greenwich Summer Sessions have run for the past two years and will again take place this July as part of the build up to London 2012.

Last summer's event marked the beginning of a year-long countdown to the Games, and ticket holders enjoyed six days of concerts with various artists from the world of music taking to the stage.

Ranging from soloists to orchestras, the Summer Sessions play host to a wide scope of performers, and many who are staying in top hotels in London for the Olympics may see this as a great opportunity to sample some of the culture available as part of their visit to the city.

Britain's capital has a vast array of entertainment on offer, and the event - taking place in the open air surroundings of the Old Royal Naval College - will give people the chance to enjoy the beauty of Greenwich Park while also experiencing some top acts as excitement grows around London in anticipation of the Games.

The College itself is situated on the Thames, in the middle of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, and such a setting is a reflection of the atmosphere and mood that the Summer Sessions aim to capture.

2011 saw 12,000 people attend the concerts, reflecting their popularity and the way in which Londoners embraced the opportunity to witness such a performance in the riverside setting.

Given that the capital will have thousands more visitors this summer as people flock to its streets in the lead up to the Olympics, demand for the tickets to the performances could soar as they serve as a more relaxed prelude to the Games than the raucous West End theatres.

With headliners yet to be announced, the Summer Sessions may prove to be one of the more popular ways to experience the range of entertainment the capital has to offer.
