London Film Festival is nearly here

1st October 2013

Fans of cinema will be delighted to hear that there is just over one week to go before the 57th annual BFI London Film Festival (LFF) kicks off.

Having gained a reputation as one of the biggest events on the global movie calendar, this year's festival is sure to be bigger and better than ever, and with loads of great screenings, talks, workshops and other activities taking place, it's certainly worth taking a trip to the capital for.

Beginning on October 9th, the festival will run over 12 days and will include a number of world and UK premieres.

Among the highlights of this year's line-up is the opening night gala, which will involve a screening of Captain Phillips, the latest film from British director Paul Greengrass, which tells the story of the 2009 hijacking of an American container vessel by Somali pirates and stars Tom Hanks.

Other top movies set to feature at this year's festival include Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut, Don Jon, which is a comedic drama about a young man with an addiction to pornography.

Having worked with some of the biggest directors in Hollywood - including Christopher Nolan, whose creative expertise was the driving force behind movies like Inception and The Dark Knight Rises - Gordon-Levitt has become one of the most recognisable faces in the movie world and his first outing as a director has been long awaited.

Events and screenings will be held at a number of venues across London, with the epicentre of the festival being the BFI Centre on the South Bank.

Located close to Waterloo station and within walking distance of several major attractions - including the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the London Dungeons - the BFI centre is a great place to spend an afternoon, whether you have tickets for a film or simply want to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps even rub shoulders with some of the stars.
