Notting Hill Carnival Party line-up confirmed
The line-up for this year's Red Bull Music Academy Notting Hill Carnival has been confirmed.
Topping the bill will be Major Lazer Soundsystem with support from Kingston MC ‘dutty yeah’ Sean Paul, Dre Skull & Machel Montano, Nicky Da B, Melé b2b Lil Silva, Lunice, Doc Daneeka and Raf Riley.
Now in its fifth year the event has proved very popular in showcasing the latest talent and tickets are free of charge on a first-come-first-served basis. They will be released at 10am on August 10th and anyone wanting to combine the party with London getaways will need to act fast to secure their place.
Started in 1966, the Notting Hill Carnival takes place each August bank holiday weekend and is now one of the major events on the London calendar, with around one million people being involved including many staying at central London hotels.
As well as the 20-mile procession, there are a large number of food stalls selling traditional food and drink such as jerk chicken and ginger beer.
The main event takes place on the Bank Holiday Monday, starting from Great Western Road, travelling along Chepstow Road, Westbourne Grove and then arriving in Ladbroke Grove at around 7pm.
This year's carnival will start on August 26th and is set to be one of the biggest yet with London also celebrating the Olympic Games and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
There are also special events for children and one of the highlights of the weekend is on the Sunday when prizes are given for the best kids' costumes.
