Two weeks to go before the London Craft Beer Festival

2nd August 2013

As anyone who's spent time staying at hotel accommodation in London will report, the English capital is home to a vast array of lively pubs and restaurants. Accordingly, it's a fantastic destination for lovers of beer - especially as so many local microbreweries have sprung up in the past few years.

These artisanal producers - alongside their equally talented counterparts from elsewhere in the UK and Europe - will be hawking their wares in Bethnal Green later this month, with arts venue Oval Space set to host the inaugural London Craft Beer Festival.

Kicking off on August 16th and running for three days, this ambitious new event should prove unmissable for anyone who's ever fallen in love with a hoppy beverage. In total, 18 breweries will be showcasing more than 100 individual beers - among them velvety stouts, crisp pilsners and even zesty sour brews inspired by the wild ales of Belgium.

Exhibitors include The Kernel, a London-based brewery whose idiosyncratic repertoire boasts a depth of flavour rivals would "give an arm and a leg to create", organisers claim. They'll be joined by several other boutique brands from the UK, among them BrewDog and Magic Rock.

Visitors will also be able to sample some of the finest craft ales Europe has to offer. Mikkeller, the Danish brewery responsible for the table beer at Copenhagen's Michelin-starred Noma restaurant, will be bringing a few bottles over - as will Dutch innovator Brouwerij De Molen.

Oval Space has collaborated with a handful of prestigious local food producers to put together a complementary street food menu, so festival-goers won't have to worry about lining their stomachs beforehand. Artisanal firms like the Ginger Pig Butchers, Gelupo and the E5 Bakehouse have all contributed to the menu and there should be something to please everyone.

Finally, the venue has also invited a handful of bands and DJs to perform at the event; visitors should expect a lively atmosphere that does justice to the subversive spirit of the craft beer world.
