Von Teese opens pop-up bar
Travellers looking for the best cocktail bars in London may want to stop off at the new pop-up bar from Cointreau and burlesque star Dita Von Teese.
Entitled Cointreau Prive and billed as "London's most exclusive speakeasy", the bar opened at the end of November with an exclusive show from the risque performer.
Dita Von Teese serves as the drink maker's brand ambassador and helped to designe the pop-up bar, ideally located for guests in central London hotels.
The Cointreau Prive is composed of a series of individually themed private salons and "decadently decorated" rooms modelled on the former Mrs Marylin Manson's LA home, according to the Evening Standard.
Additionally, the venue will also feature some of Teese's most prized personal possessions as part of the decor.
"Throughout its limited three-week opening, the secretly speakeasy will serve the finest cocktails, like the Cointreau Teese, crafted by professional mixologists," explains the bar.
Those looking for entrance into the stricktly guest-list only event must register their interest on the Cointreau Prive website.
Opening night festivities proved to be a star-studded affair, with Teese herself hosting a party that included Kelly Book, Made In Chelsea stars Cesca Hull and Ollie Locke, Sadie Frost, Tamara Ecclestone and Amy Winehouse's former partner Reg Traviss, among others.
Having made her living as a pin-up girl and burlesque innovator, Teese says that she started her career in US strip bars.
"I was performing in seedy strip bars for six people," she told TNT Magazine.
"I remember being in a small town called Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin, where I had an ad in the newspaper and I thought that was it. I was like, 'this is the height of my fame. This is my 15 minutes!'"
Her performance in the new pop-up bar received rave reviews, with Time Out championing her appearance and touting the venue's drinks.
"Be warned, the drinks are pretty damn strong," the publication added.
