Windsor Castle to host classic car show
Situated on the River Thames just a few miles outside the city, a visit to Windsor Castle makes for excellent family day out when staying at top hotels in London.
And this September could be a good time in particular for a trip to the royal residence for admirers of classic cars.
As part of the celebrations taking place across London and the UK marking the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Windsor is to host a display of 60 of the most stunning classic and performance cars from around the world.
The Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance exhibition will be open to the public on September 8th and 9th, with cars coming from as far away as the US, Europe and Argentina to take part.
Only vehicles of the very highest show standards have been invited making this a unique event and one of the highlights of the motoring calendar.
In addition to the main show, the cars will take part in a 'Jubilee Tour of Elegance' on the Sunday.
Classic and performance cars from 1952 to date, representing each year of Her Majesty the Queen's reign, will be selected to take part in the tour.
It will see the cars depart from central London and take a specially chosen route to Windsor, with the final approach to include a spectacular drive up to Windsor Castle.
Those attending the show may also want to take some time to look around Windsor Castle - the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and the Queen's official residence.
Meanwhile, the castle will host a number of other special events this year as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
These include a photography exhibition charting Her Majesty's 60-year reign, running until October 28th, and the Diamond Jubilee Pageant, which will see dancers, musicians, military and equestrian displays from around the world come together for three nights of performances in May.
