Enjoy Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro in London

30th August 2013

Mozart penned many famous operas but Le nozze di Figaro is perhaps his best known work.

Set in late 18th century Seville, it is based on Beaumarchais' 1784 play La Folle Journee, ou Le Mariage de Figaro and is a sequel to the Barber of Seville.

Set two years later than the Barber of Seville, it tells the story of the Count Almaviva, who has married Rosine. Despite their nuptials, the count has not remained faithful to his wife and their marriage has hit a difficult patch.

Figaro, meanwhile, has given up being a barber to become Almaviva's majordomo. He is engaged to Suzanne, who is Countess Rosine's maid. Added to the mix is the fact that the count also has eyes for Suzanne.

Meanwhile, Old Bartholo has returned to seek revenge on Figaro for helping Rosine escape from him.

This story is one of love, betrayal, trust and strength of character. With Mozart's wonderful score, it really is a joyous journey from beginning to end, in which love and fidelity ultimately triumph philandering and double crossing.

Many directors have taken on the challenge of reproducing this story and the latest to try is David McVicar, who sets his production in an 1830 French chateau.

Set at this time of political revolution, it enhances the themes of class social mobility touched on in Mozart's masterpiece.

For guests staying in London hotels, this could be the perfect way to spend an evening on a romantic break in the capital.

Only shows of the very highest standard are allowed to grace the stage at the Royal Opera House, so visitors can rest assured that the showcase will be every bit as well put together as one would expect.

Being one of the most iconic venues in London, the Royal Opera House is not difficult to get to.

Located in Covent Garden, it is easily accessible on the Piccadilly Tube line, while numerous buses pass nearby.

In addition, there are multi-storey car parks within five minutes' walk of the venue.
