Athletes' village unveiled for London 2012
A number of guests were invited to the Olympic and Paralympic Athletes' Village to test drive its facilities and ensure that it is ready for the arrival of the world's top sportsmen and women.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has developed the special village that will accommodate 16,000 athletes and team officials and 6,200 Paralympic competitors from more than 200 countries.
There are a wide range of facilities for those staying at the village during London 2012, including a high-tech gym, multi-faith centre, beauty salon and a 24-hour dining area, which is expected to serve 1.2 million meals during the Games.
LOCOG chair Seb Coe said: "With less than a month to go until the opening ceremony we’re delighted to reveal further Games time services and facilities to our first overnight guests at the Olympic and Paralympic Village.
"Our village team, athletes' committee and partners are each playing a crucial role in creating a first-class Village to help athletes relax and prepare for the Games and we're thrilled to welcome some of those who have been pivotal in making this happen."
Olympic gold medallist and Athletes’ Committee chair, Jonathan Edwards added that many years of planning had gone into ensuring that the village would provide the very best services and facilities to allow the competitors to perform to the very best of their abilities during the Games this summer.
For those enjoying more luxury hotel rooms in London, the Olympic Games begins on July 27th and the city is holding a wide range of events across the capital to celebrate the famous sporting spectacular including music concerts, museum exhibitions and festivals.
