Waterloo Quarter Food Festival now underway

11th July 2013

For the fifth year running, London's foodies are being treated to a vast array of gastronomic delights thanks to the Waterloo Quarter Food Festival - "an annual celebration of tastes, techniques and tucking into glorious food", according to organisers.

The 2013 edition of the festival kicked off on June 27th and will continue until July 31st, with events, produce markets and food stalls gracing the streets around Waterloo station on the south bank of the Thames.

Local restaurants, bars and supermarkets like Cubana, Greensmiths and The Stage Door - all long-term festival supporters - are also pitching in with mouthwatering special offers. Whether you're looking for a two-for-one meal or a chance to try out a world-class cocktail at an unprecedented discount, you're in with a good chance at these esteemed establishments.

The Lower Marsh Market is also throwing its weight behind the Waterloo Quarter Food Festival this year. A stone's throw from the Waterloo, Southwark and Lambeth North tube stops, this is one of London's best-loved historic markets and offers some jaw-dropping deals for the duration of the festivities.

Meanwhile, there's a densely-packed programme of pop-up markets, demonstrations and workshops running throughout the month-long festival that should cater to every conceivable taste.

Enthusiastic carnivores, for instance, can join master butchers from The Green Pig as they deliver their weekly demonstration - each time focusing on a different meat. Attendance is ticketed at £25 per head and the next events are on July 17th and 24th.

Those looking for something a little more lively should make their way down to The Stage Door, a popular local pub, for a special outdoor celebration on July 25th. This is totally free to attend; visitors will be able to sample a wide variety of canapes while they enjoy live music in the balmy Emma Cons Gardens piazza.

Foodies staying at luxury London hotels this month should find the Waterloo Quarter Food Festival easy to reach, especially via public transport - Waterloo is one of the city's biggest rail and tube stations.
