Why all the fuss about East London?

4th October 2013

Anyone planning a trip to the capital may well have heard a lot of hype about places like Hackney and Stratford, with the whole of East London gaining something of a reputation in recent times as the place to be.

This is a trend that first began when London was awarded the 2012 Olympic Games way back in 2005, following which a number of areas in the eastern part of the city received a significant investment for development.

So, if you’re heading over to London any time soon then you should definitely make the effort to get out of the city centre and check out some of the great places to be found in the E postcodes.

Shopaholics, for example, will love taking a trip to the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, which is among the largest malls in Europe and home to a huge array of stores, restaurants and other amenities. It also acts as the gateway to the Olympic Park, so sports fans wanting to take a look at the famous Olympic Stadium or the surrounding facilities can combine a shopping trip with a visit to one of London’s premier sporting venues.

Elsewhere, Dalston has been emerging as the new homeland of London’s nocturnal scene, attracting young people of all interests to its many bars, pubs and clubs, all of which stay open long into the night.

This is because many of the establishments here are licensed to stay open later than others in places like Camden or the West End, and the drinks tend to be cheaper as well.

Venues like Birthdays, Alibi, The Nest and Dance Tunnel are just a few of the great places to head to if you want to dance the night away to the latest tunes.

Take a stroll along Regent’s Canal from Haggerston and you’ll soon reach Victoria Park, one of London’s most attractive recreational spaces.
