Winter in London is a truly magical time of the year, and as a bustling, busy city, you’re never short on things to do and see. Towards the end of the year, the festive season kicks into full swing and sees the city come alive with an array of great activities offering something for all the family, whenever you visit. Whether you want a winter wonderland, fabulous festive shopping or open-air ice skating, you’ll be thoroughly entertained throughout this very special time of year.

1. Visit Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Opened on Thursday 22nd November 2018, Hyde Park’s annual Winter Wonderland is a fabulous way to get into the festive spirit. Whether you want to try your hand at ice skating, take in a seasonal circus show or go Christmas shopping at the enormous festive market, there’s nowhere better for all the family to enjoy some traditional Christmas-y fun. It gets super busy at peak times, but that’s all part of the charm.

Top attractions to look out for this year include the stunning Peter Pan on Ice, the cinematic Snowman Experience, and the giant observation wheel, as well as brand new ice sculpting workshops to help you master this unique craft.

2. Pop into a Christmas Market

London is well known for its stunning Christmas markets, but if the often inclement weather is putting you off, never fear! There’s plenty of fantastic undercover markets close to you at The Montcalm London Marble Arch. Leadenhall Market is not only beautiful, but it’s all under-shelter – so this historic venue provides ample opportunity to shop until you drop.

The Christmas Lights are switched on from 16th November, getting the festive season into full swing. Greenwich Market is also a fabulous area to explore when seeking out new winter activities.

3. Go Ice Skating at Somerset House

The opulent surroundings of Somerset House provide a stunning backdrop to a true skater’s paradise, close to our London’s 5 star hotels. Set within the beautiful courtyard of this stately home, this is where you can skate day or night with family and friends – as well as enjoying an après-ski treat at the very special Fortnum’s Lodge, where there’re warming snacks and rink-side drinks aplenty.

4. Get Cosy at a Rooftop Bar

Rooftop bars are all the rage in London, and at The Montcalm London you’re within easy reach of some of the best. Whilst the winter weather might not make sitting outside very appealing, many venues go above and beyond to create a delightful atmosphere, providing warming drinks and blankets for many and enjoying the London skyline.

5. Enjoy a Christmas Panto

Nothing spells Christmas in London quite like the great British pantomime, and this year sees an array of top talent hosting classic pantos for all the family.  From the Greenwich Theatre’s adaptation of Robinson Crusoe, to the Lyric Hammersmith adaptation of Dick Whittington and Hackney Empire’s crowd-pleasing Aladdin, all of these can be checked out throughout November and December.
