For non-football fans, it may seem like only a few weeks since football ended for the season – and that’s reasonable because it was only a few weeks ago. But for football lovers, June and July is World Cup time.
Happily, there are various venues about London screening all the Football World Cup 2018 matches and they make for a great, unique way to enjoy the biggest football tournament in the world.
Boxpark, Shoreditch
Uber-trendy and packed with food and drink venues, there are few better places to catch a World Cup match in London than at Boxpark.
Boxpark was conceived as a pop-up, very cool shopping experience. All of the retailers – covering clothes, watches, homewares and food and drink – are housed in their own converted shipping container. There will be a big screen on site and it has something to offer for those members of your group who may not be football mad. It’s just thirty-minutes on the Tube from your Montcalm London City hotel, so get involved.
Skylight, Tobacco Dock
If you like the idea of lots of food, big-screen football, drinks and a dash of croquet thrown into the mix, Skylight is the place to go. It’s just over 20-minutes from your Montcalm London City hotel and covers three whole floors.
The venue’s open rooftop terrace has stunning panoramic views of the city, and there’s something here for everyone. Those who don’t care for the beautiful game can indulge in a spot of croquet or pétanque, or just grab retreat to the Montcalm hotel spa, since it’s only a short hop. The football fans amongst you can take their choice from multiple screens and enjoy some summer sun as the action unfolds.
Dirty Harry’s Soho
A 10-minute from your Montcalm London City hotel, Dirty Harry’s is a great place to grab a drink and some good anytime, but this goes double for the world cup.
The venue is known for its delicious, very large burgers and craft beers, but they’re also very excited for the world cup. They’re firing up the huge screen and generally getting into the spirit of the thing. There’s live music after some matches, and also a very good, lengthy cocktail menu to sample.
The Piano Works, Farringdon
Usually a music venue and voted one of the top-11 cocktail bars in the whole country, there are worse places you could watch the World Cup. They’ve got a healthily-sized big screen for the matches, and a range of very good food and drink is available on-site.
It’s definitely worth sampling the amazing cocktails as you take in a match, as they really are good enough to justify the praise they get. If you don’t fancy any of the offerings in the menu, you can always enjoy the drink and retire to Hankies Marble Arch for a late dinner.
The Ten Bells, Shoreditch
If it’s a classic pub atmosphere you’re after, then you can’t go wrong with The Ten Bells. It’s an institution and one of the best pubs in Shoreditch. It does a great job creating a pub atmosphere with modern touches.
They have a big screen in place and ready to go, and you won’t find a better selection of craft ales, gins, wines and cocktails in the area. It’s more intimate than an outdoor venue but will be rocking come the World Cup kick off.
